A Message From Sube Co-Presidents (2021)

¡Hola, nuestra gente!

We are so thrilled to be Sube’s new Co-Presidents for 2021. In our first meeting with this new (amazing) board, we made sure to be in consensus when it came to Sube’s purpose: Professional development through community. As a Latinx professional development group, it is important to be intentional and think about who and what exactly we are developing. Who are we serving? It is imperative for us to keep diversifying more and more not only internally when it comes to, of course, gender, race, and socioeconomic status, but also when it comes to the work we do and the fields we relate to. 

One of our focuses for our term is to maintain a solid relationship with La Casa, Yale’s Latinx Cultural Center. From there, we hope to be able to bring the wider Yale latinx community into Sube so we can most thoroughly and inclusively serve our latine Yalies. This would also be developed hand in hand with new tracks that broaden Sube’s services, expanding beyond business, finance, and tech and tapping into nonprofit work, healthcare, law, and more. Currently, we are welcoming new mentors and members into each of these tracks. Each track will be hosting industry specific workshops on topics such as elevator pitches, cover letters and resume crafting, networking, technicals and many other valuable and tangible skills. Simultaneously, our board is planning speaker events regarding the respective tracks throughout this spring, summer, and fall. Information on speakers can be found on the Sube Calendar here . This wider range of tracks and programming would better serve Yale's latinx community as it is more inclusive of our passions and interests.

With more intentional connectivity efforts, we can work to foster true mentorship with not only Sube alumni, but also La Casa's, a much more expansive and robust network of remarkable latine professionals. This effort is also intrinsically attached to bringing Sube more into the opportunities and connections that can be found in the wider Yale Latino Alumni Network (YLAN). Thinking of Sube's true purpose and mission, outside of the individual, being pointed about the aforementioned would be transformative for not only the members we currently serve, but its legacy and overall impact.
